REREMAI - HISTORICAL INFORMATION
She is a classic 32 ft Woollacott Sloop of the 1950's Kathryn Anne design, built in the early 1960's intended for long distance short-handed cruising to the Pacific Islands.
Built from kauri with carvel hull and Oregon mast. Her mast was stepped in 1964 and she set out for Tonga across the Pacific chain.
After sailing Auckland waters for several years she was sold in 1973 to Wellintonian Don Delbridge, who raced her frequently. She was the top overall yacht in her class Certificates and documents included with her sale include winnings from 1974 to 1979. On her delivery voyage to Wellington she was struck by sever gales and thought lost at sea, until a search involving the Dutch Navy eventually located her. News clippings recounting this from former owner were numerous. mark recounts surfing her at 14 kts off the base of Fiordland, knocked down but coming up smiling, with an easily driven hull. Her mooring snapped during a storm last year and she drifted to the rocks, stern railing was buckled and removed, but damage was minimal and bow professionally resined. She would benefit with an automatic bilge pump as she has a few slow leaks. |
